Colorado Rapids

09 August 2:13 am

It was the Kei Kamara show at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday night. With his brace the Crew SC striker led the Black & Gold to their second away win of the season and reclaimed the lead in the race towards the MLS Golden Boot. In addition to Kamara, other Crew SC players made notable contributions to the 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids, as well. Here, we break them down by the numbers.

Kei Kamara scored two goals against the Colorado Rapids, his fifth brace of the 2015 Major League Soccer regular season and his second on the road, following a two-goal performance on April 8 at Vancouver. With the brace Kamara re-took the MLS goal-scoring lead with his 16th and 17th tallies of the campaign, edging Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco by one. With his 17 goals, the Sierra Leone international is now tied with Brian McBride for third place on the club's single-season goal-scoring record books. McBride scored his 17 goals during the 1996 season.

Tony Tchani provided the assist on Kamara's first goal. The helper was his second of the season and his 11th in Black & Gold. The Cameroonian notched a career-best six assists last season.

Hector Jimenez registered the game-winning assist by setting up Kamara's second goal. It was the fourth assist of the season for Jimenez and his second game-winning helper, following his assist on May 9 vs. Seattle. This is the first time Jimenez has notched more than one game-winning assist in a single season.

Chris Klute started at leftback and played the full 90 minutes in his return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, where he played his first three MLS seasons ahead of being traded to Crew SC at the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

Jack McInerney, acquired from the Montreal Impact earlier in the week, played in his first match for Crew SC. He made his Black & Gold debut by entering the match in second-half stoppage time.

The Black & Gold will play their 11th Fourth of July contest in club history when they take on the Rapids ... this is the second consecutive year with an Independence Day showdown ... prior to 2013, the Crew had not played on the Fourth since 2009.

After a tough 2-1 loss last year on July 4 at LA, the Crew looks to continue its recent stretch of securing points on Independence Day ... the Crew has earned a point in three of the last four meetings, including a three-match unbeaten streak (0-0-3) on Independence Day that began in 2006 (1-1 at Houston) and continued in 2007 (0-0 at Colorado) before the 1-1 draw at RFK Stadium five seasons ago.

The Crew played Colorado on Independence Day in 2007 and played to a 0-0 draw ... it was the first July 4th contest at the new Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and it was the first scoreless League match at the venue according to ... in 1999, the Crew played on July 4th in Colorado before another huge crowd (51,025), winning 3-0.

Just as Chad Marshall did against the Philadelphia Union on April 6, Colorado Rapids defender Drew Moor surpassed the 20,000 minutes played mark last week against Toronto FC to become the 47th field player to reach the milestone. As the two latest members of the 20,000-minute Club, Marshall and Moor are two of seventeen active players to surpass the mark.

The Crew and Rapids met just one time last season as the Black & Gold fell at Dick's Sporting Goods Park to open 2012. Before the two sides meet at Crew Stadium on Saturday, let's look back at the match from last year.

MARCH 10: Rapids 2 - Crew 0

Returning to where the 2011 season ended with an early MLS Cup Playoffs exit, the Crew traveled to Colorado to start the 2012 season. Though the cast had changed, the Black & Gold faced a similar result falling 2-0. Drew Moor and Quincy Amarikwa each scored for the Rapids from a pair of Kosuke Kimura assists just before the halftime and full-time whistles. Milovan Mirosevic led the Crew offensively, getting off two attempts on Matt Pickens' goal.
