Latino del Año 2013: Federico Higuain, Diego Chara, Joao Plata, Juan Agudelo in star-studded Group B
Welcome to Latino del Año 2013!
Starting today, FutbolMLS.com will unveil the 32 players nominated for Latino del Año 2013, where you, the fans, will select the Latin American player who had the best performance throughout the 2013 MLS regular season. Remember that you can start voting as of Monday, November 4.
MLSsoccer.com and FutbolMLS.com editors selected 32 Latino players that made an impact throughout the 2013 MLS regular season, including winners of FutbolMLS.com’s weekly contest, Latino de la Jornada, and a draw was held to divide the players in eight groups of four players each.
Here are the nominees from Group B. (Click here to see the nominees in Group A.)
|Federico Higuaín||As captain of the Columbus Crew and first-seeded player in Group B, Higuain is the man who runs the team in Ohio. Each time "Pipa" jumps onto the field, his team looks much more dangerous in attack. The Argentine scored 11 goals in 2013, his first full season with the team, after arriving in August 2012.|
|Diego Chará||Many names are thrown out there to be named the MLS MVP for this season. But few mention the Colombian Designated Player, who has become the motor shaft at the surprise team this season. Chará makes the work for his midfielders and forwards easier and has helped the Timbers to lead the Western Conference.|
|Joao Plata||The Ecuadorian striker came to RSL in preseason and immediately delivered results. His joy for soccer was contagious and helped the Claret-and-Cobalt finish the regular season as the second-highest scoring team in 2013. They'll hope "Platita" will replicate the great season he had during the playoffs.|
|Juan Agudelo||Although he will join EPL's Stoke City in January, Agudelo made it very clear when he signed the preliminary contract, that he was fully committed to the Revs, who have returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. The Colombian-American arrived in the middle of the season from Chivas USA, and has scored seven goals in 14 games.|
