Crew Stadium leads the way in MLS stadium revolution
November 21, 2013
Crew Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter made his first two hires on Wednesday, appointing Asher Mendelsohn the Director of Soccer Operations and Josh Wolff as an Assistant Coach. Adam Jardy from the Columbus Dispatch reports on the hires and the extensive experience that each Mendelsohn and Wolff bring to the Black & Gold. Jardy also goes deeper into exploring Mendelsohn's role and experience in his "Four Things" blog post for the Columbus Dispatch.
Crew Stadium stands not only as the first soccer-specific stadium and one of the premier soccer venues in the U.S., but as a monument to the forward-thinking that eventually developed into a revolution. There are now 13 stadiums built specifically for soccer that host MLS teams, and Forbes' Chris Smith provides a history of the trend that Hunt started here in Columbus.
Along with his piece on the MLS stadium revolution, Forbes also published a review of the League's most valuable teams. It is clear that professional soccer in the U.S. as a whole has never been worth more than it is right now and as Paul Kennedy from Soccer America writes in his look at Smith's Forbes report, "Most economists will agree we're still waiting for the economic recovery. But MLS is booming."
