Dare To Care: Military Appreciation Month
COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew today announced that the club’s Dare to Care platform has a full month of military appreciation scheduled with service events featuring players and staff. After a full month of community relations events, the four-week period is capped-off by the club’s Military Appreciation Night presented by Heartland Bank on May 24 when the Crew is set to wear specially designed Crew camouflage numbers on its kits when the team takes on the Chicago Fire. The jerseys are to be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting USO of Central & Southern Ohio and Fisher House of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The month of activities begins with the “Casting with the Crew” fishing event presented by Kroger, featuring Crew players and the Wounded Warrior Project this upcoming Monday, April 28 at the O’Shaughnessy Reservoir in Powell. On May 12, Crew players and staff are planning to assist in creating care packages for troops overseas and are working with Operation Buckeye at their Columbus headquarters (4284 N. High St., Columbus). One week later, on May 19, the Crew travels to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for a visit with troops as the players are set to experience the base’s Firearm Training Simulator.
Bidding for the special Crew camouflage-numbered jersey takes place exclusively online via TheCrew.com beginning Thursday, May 8 at 12:00 p.m. ET and ending Saturday, May 24 at 11:59 p.m. ET following the Military Appreciation Night match.
