Revs sign Sinovic and Boggs

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. –The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed two of its picks from the 2010 MLS SuperDraft: defender Seth Sinovic from Creighton University and forward/midfielder Zak Boggs from the University of South Florida. Both players will occupy developmental roster spots. Per team and league policies, terms of the deals were not released.

The Revolution selected both players in the second round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, with Sinovic picked with the 25th overall selection and Boggs taken with the 31st overall selection.

“Seth and Zak are both promising players and we’re pleased to add them to the roster,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “Both players have showed some good things during preseason training, and now that they are on the roster, provide us with more depth in several positions. We’re looking forward to developing them in our system.”

Sinovic, 23, is an attack-minded left back who finished second at Creighton with three goals and four assists in 2009, all coming from his left back slot. Sinovic ended his career with eight goals and 15 assists in 77 games, 66 of which were starts, and earned two all-region honors. Sinovic played five seasons with the Jays, missing his 2005 freshman campaign with a medical redshirt.

Boggs, 23, scored 18 goals and recorded eight assists for a total of 46 points in his collegiate career which spanned stops at West Virginia, Central Florida and South Florida. He also helped the Bulls win their first BIG EAST Championship in 2008. With USF, Boggs started all 44 games in his junior and senior seasons, scoring nine goals and adding six assists.

The Revolution is currently preparing for the 2010 campaign with preseason activities. The team is presently in North Carolina for a 12-day training trip which includes three matches. The Revolution is scheduled to open the 2010 season on the road against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, March 27 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The Revs are set to open their 2010 home slate on Saturday, April 10, when they host Toronto FC. Visit revolutionsoccer.net for more information.
