Marshall preps for All-Star

Chad Marshall All Star

The 2010 MLS All-Stars met as teammates for the first time on Monday morning as they prepared for their first training session together.

They'll have just three days to assemble a side good enough to go toe-to-toe with English giants Manchester United on Wednesday evening.

As the only defender in the All-Star First XI to have played in the summer classic previously, Columbus Crew center back Chad Marshall, who played in last year's All-Star game, knows how difficult it can be to gel with a side that has only been together for a few days.

"It's fun, but it's difficult," Marshall told MLSsoccer.com ahead of the side's first training on Monday. "You don't know their tendencies and what they do, in certain situations, but you have to figure that out in the two days you have to train, and see what you can do to win the game."

Last year Marshall and the All-Stars shut out EPL side Everton before falling in a penalty shootout. This year won't be any easier, as they'll be up against the likes of Manchester United legends Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, as well as a new breed of talent that includes Portugal winger Nani and Mexican starlet Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez.

"I'm sure it's going to be a good game," Marshall said. "I'm not sure of the lineup they're going to be putting out, but I'm sure it's going to be a tough squad. Hopefully we can get together here in the next few days, figure it out and give them a good game.

"It's not every day you get to play against guys of that caliber or a team like Manchester United. I'm looking forward to the opportunity and I hope we play well."
