Crew News & Notes - November 18

Eddie Gaven

Though the Crew’s season has come to an end, four of its players saw competitive action for their respective national teams on Wednesday (Nov. 17). Midfielders Brian Carroll, Eddie Gaven and Robbie Rogers all earned starting assignments for the U.S. National Team in its 1-0 win over South Africa, while defender Shaun Francis saw action for Jamaica in it scoreless draw with Costa Rica in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Gaven and Carroll both played the full 90 minutes, while Rogers went the first 60 minutes before giving way to eventual goal-scorer Juan Agudelo.

Both Gaven and Carroll played their eighth match with the National Team, while Robbie Rogers earned his 13th senior team cap. Rogers was also a member of the 2008 United States Olympic Team, where he started all three matches of group stage, and he was selected by Bob Bradley to the preliminary 30-man roster in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Jamaica’s match at Lockhart Stadium was a final tune-up in preparation of its defense of the Caribbean Digicel Cup title later this month. It was the second call-up for Francis who earned the praise of local Jamaican newspapers for his performance in the 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 10.
