AMSTERDAM -- Free agent forward Jeff Cunningham has begun a training visit with Norwegian side IK Start, but the club are being publicly coy over the possibility of offering him a contract.
The 34-year-old, whose MLS rights are held by the Columbus Crew, had his first workout under the watchful eye of Start manager Knut Tørum on Tuesday.
While Norwegian reports have called Cunningham's visit a job audition, the club are showing a non-committal face at this time.
"We don't say this is 'trial'," Start press officer Roy Emanuelsen told MLSsoccer.com. "He is a visitor, and with his [résumé] and charisma, he is welcome to spend a few days of his vacation with us!
"If we would like to sign the player? Well, in this business, you never know."
Cunningham, who has spent his entire career to date in MLS, currently stands one league goal shy of all-time scoring leader Jaime Moreno. The Jamaica-born US international has struck 132 times in 338 career games.
A two-time Golden Boot winner, Cunningham would be the third recent player to move from MLS to IK Start if signed.
Both Hunter Freeman and Clarence Goodson left the club at the end of last season, with the former returning home to join the Houston Dynamo and the latter earning a headline move to Danish power Brøndby for his three seasons of work at Sør Arena.
