Crew News & Notes - May 11

Crew Cat 3

The Crew (3-1-4, 13 pts.) travels to California to face the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday, May 14 at 10:30 p.m. (ET). The Black & Gold will look to extend its unbeaten streak to eight games on the heels of its 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders last Saturday (May 7).

The match will be televised live regionally on ONN with Dwight Burgess and Dante Washington calling all the action. The game can be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN and on-line at TheCrew.com, with Neil Sika behind the microphone, and in Spanish on La Mega 103.1, with Carlos Cordova and Benny Pietrangelo on the call.

The Black & Gold enters the match on the heels of its 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders at Crew Stadium last Saturday (May 7). Forward Emilio Renteria extended his streak to four straight goals with a deftly taken penalty kick in the 67th minute. The Crew leads the series with San Jose with a 18-12-3 record. The teams drew both matches in 2010, 0-0 at Crew Stadium (Oct. 2) and 2-2 at Buck Shaw behind goals by Eddie Gaven and Chad Marshall (June 2).

San Jose, which enters a match at Vancouver on Wednesday (May 11) with a 1-4-2 record (5 pts.), most recently defeated the Portland Timbers 1-0 in U.S. Open Cup qualifier on May 4 behind a late goal by defender Ike Opara. The 2010 MLS Golden Boot winner, Chris Wondolowski, leads the team in goals scored with three and the Black & Gold could face former forward Steven Lenhart who played his first full match on April 30 after undergoing a right knee arthroscopy at the beginning of the year. Former Crew defender and Pickerington native Chris Leitch will also be available for selection for the Quakes on Saturday.

The Crew continues its two-game road trip with a visit to MLS expansion team Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN stadium on May 21, at 11 p.m., before returning home on May 28 to host Chivas USA at Crew Stadium.
