The Columbus Crew in partnership with Lifeline of Ohio distributed toys to local children at the Ohio Hispanic Coalition’s El Dia de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day) Saturday, Jan. 7.
Three Kings Day is celebrated in many Central and South American cultures and is believed to be the day when the Three Wise Men delivered their gifts to baby Jesus, marking the end of the 12 days of Christmas. Local families were invited to come celebrate Three Kings Day by sharing home cooked food, enjoy a children’s play, and receive a donated toy for each child.
Over 250 toys were donated for this event through the “Share the Gift” Done Vida/ Columbus Crew toy drive. Individuals donated new toys at any La Michaoacana markets in central Ohio during the month of December.
Ohio Hispanic Coalition is a multi-service agency serving the Latino/ Hispanic community in Columbus through advocacy, education, training, access to quality programs and developing collaborative partnerships to raise awareness of the organization.
“It was a win-win for the Crew to partner with such great organizations and impact our local Hispanic community in a positive way” Francisco Terreros, Director of Multicultural Business Development said, “Dia de Los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day) is a popular celebration within the Hispanic Community where toys and food are shared amongst family. It was so rewarding for us to be a part of this event and share these traditions with our community.”
