News & Notes - July 5

Milovan Mirosevic

Following an intense 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake before a season-high crowd of 19,674 on Saturday (June 30), the Crew travels to the Province of Quebec to face the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on Sunday, July 8. Columbus looks to build upon its recent positive results as it climbs up the Eastern Conference standings.

Sunday’s match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and be televised live regionally on FOX Sports Ohio, with Dwight Burgess and Duncan Oughton calling all the action. The game can also be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN and on-line at TheCrew.com, with Neil Sika on the call, and in Spanish on La Mega 103.1, with Carlos Cordova behind the microphone.

Since opening Stade Saputo on June 16, Montreal (5-11-3, 18 pts.), has won just two of its last six contests and has lost three of its last four. Most recently, the Impact dropped a 3-1 decision to Sporting KC on Wednesday (July 4). The Impact is led by local product Patrice Bernier and by former Serie A standout Bernardo Corradi who have both tallied four goals each. Corradi, however, suffered a torn ACL in training on June 18 and will not be available for selection. The other big off season acquisition, Matteo Ferrari, may also be unavailable due to injury as well as captain Davy Arnaud who will be suspended due to yellow card accumulation. The Impact will be able to count on Bernier and the club’s first ever Designated Player, former Bologna and Italian national team star, Marco Di Vaio.

The Crew is now 4-1-3 in its last eight games and 6-5-4 overall (22 pts.), after the win over RSL in which Tony Tchani tallied his second goal in as many games and Eddie Gaven notched his 30th in Black & Gold. This is the second of three matches between the Crew and Impact, with the Black & Gold having topped Montreal 2-0 behind goals by Milovan Mirosevic and Olman Vargas on March 24.

Next up, the Crew returns home to host Sporting KC on Saturday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Crew Stadium.
