Crew in the Community: October 13-19

Pink Ribbon

Following a highly successful “Boot Breast Cancer” night presented by OhioHealth on Sunday, October 7, the Crew is back in action throughout Central Ohio this week as the team prepares for its final push towards the 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs. Despite not having a game this weekend due to the FIFA international break, the Black & Gold will bring the Crew Soccer Tour to the Fall Harvest Fair on Saturday, October 13 at Columbus Commons.

“Boot Breast Cancer” night presented by OhioHealth was part of the MLS W.O.R.K.S. League-wide campaign to support breast cancer awareness, treatment and research initiatives. The first 10,000 fans through the gates received a pink rally towel courtesy of OhioHealth. Breast cancer survivors and their families also joined OhioHealth clinicians in forming a human ribbon on the field at halftime of the Crew’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City. All Crew players wore jerseys featuring pink MLS W.O.R.K.S. ribbon patches, with several wearing pink wristbands and shoelaces. Sunday’s game was played with a commemorative pink adidas PRIME match ball, and pink Gatorade sideline towels and adidas scarves were featured on each team’s bench.

There are two player appearances on Tuesday, October 16, as forwards Jairo Arrieta and Ben Speas attend the IHOP Pancake Flipping Challenge at the IHOP Renner road location (5500 Renner Rd., Columbus, 43026). That same day, goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum and forward Tommy Heinemann will participate in the DSACO Buddy Walk Clinic and Autograph Session at Crew Stadium.

Lastly, midfielder Ethan Finlay visits the students of Columbus Collegiate Academy on Friday, October 19. Full event details for all appearances are below. Members of the media interested in attending should contact a member of the Crew's communications staff to obtain finalized information.
