The Columbus Dispatch's Adam Jardy reported yesterday that Crew Soccer Academy and University of Akron standout Wil Trapp has hired an agent and is turning professional. If the reports are true, the Crew could sign Trapp to a Homegrown contract.
"Wil Trapp has been in our system for four years, plus the year after he graduated from the Academy," Crew Technical Director Brian Bliss said of the 19-year-old. "He's been with us a while and we've had our eye on him. He's made a big contribution to our program, he's made a big contribution at Akron and he's in the mix for the Under-20 World Cup team as well. Now it's just a matter of if he's going to leave school and if we can come to an agreement."
Here is a breakdown of Trapp's stats during his time at Akron:
45 - Games. Trapp started in all 45 games for the Zips as a freshman and sophomore.
.55 - Goals-Against-Average. The Zips allowed just over a half goal-per-game during Trapp's time of playing defensive midfield for the team.
33 - Wins. Trapp helped Akron to 33 victories during his college career.
8 - Assists. The Gahanna native contributed eight assists in two seasons at Akron.
5 - Appearances. Trapp has played in five of the United States U-20 National Team's nine games in 2012. He missed the three-match trip to Spain in October due to Akron's season.
2 - Crew Soccer Academy Player of the Year Awards (2009, 2010).
2 - All-MAC First Team honors (2011, 2012).
2 - National Championships with Crew Juniors (2011 USL Super-20 League, 2012 McGuire Cup).
