Jairo Arrieta earns international call-up

Jairo Arrieta

COLUMBUS — Columbus Crew striker Jairo Arrieta has been called-up for National Team duty ahead of Costa Rica’s match in Panama on Wednesday, February 6 to open the Hexagonal round of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.

Arrieta’s call-up comes on the heels of Costa Rica’s victory in the 2013 Copa Centroamericana, where the Crew forward earned the tournament’s Golden Boot with two goals. Arrieta has earned nine caps for La Sele, dating back to 2011. As a midseason acquisition from Deportivo Saprissa in 2012, Arrieta scored nine goals and recorded four assists in just 18 appearances for the Crew last season.

Arrieta is set to re-join the Crew for preseason training after Costa Rica’s match on February 6. The Crew flies to Orlando that same day to participate in the 2013 Disney Pro Soccer Classic following the club’s 10-day training camp in Bradenon, Fla. The Black & Gold begin the 2013 Major League Soccer season on March 2 against Chivas USA in Carson, Calif.
