Get ready for the newest annual MLS tradition.
Major League Soccer on Monday launched plans for the inaugural edition of "Jersey Week," during which MLS clubs will release their newest kits in advance of the 2013 campaign. Between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28, a total of 12 clubs will unveil new jerseys for the upcoming season and beginning in 2014 every club is expected to participate in Jersey Week with at least one new jersey from their stable of primary, secondary or tertiary kits.
“We’re excited to unveil Jersey Week for our supporters,” said Maribeth Towers, MLS senior VP of consumer products in a league statement. “Jersey Week will celebrate the soccer jersey. Every stitch, every minor detail, every shade is designed in collaboration between the club and our partner at adidas. ”
The 12 MLS clubs debuting new kits will host special events that will feature their formal unveiling in the week leading up to the kickoff of the 2013 season on March 2 (see schedule below).
Some teams will be donning multiple new 2013 kits (the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders among others), while others will introduce only one new kit from their set of three jerseys. The LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City will unveil their third kits at a later date.
Supporters will have the opportunity to pre-order the new kits on MLSgear.com and MLSGearCanada.ca.
