Fresh off the successful CONCACAF U-20 Championships, Crew midfielder Wil Trapp took the time to talk with TheCrew.com as he settles in back in Columbus.

What were your overall thoughts on the CONCACAF Under-20 Tournament?

Wil Trapp (WT): Overall, I thought the tournament was excellent by us. We came a long way from our first game against Haiti to the final. We got better with every game so it was one of those things where it was exciting to see our team grow. As for the experience, it was awesome. To play an international game that really mattered and then to qualify for the World Cup was big time.

What were some of the lessons you learned about your own game while getting international experience?

WT: I would say that throughout the games I learned a lot about positioning. You can’t take plays off in these kinds of games. It’s going to be the same when I come back to the Crew. Every play counts and for 90 minutes you have to be focused.

What’s it like being one of three MLS players to be named to the All-Tournament Team?

WT: It’s an honor to be named “Best XI” for the tournament. I don’t want to focus on individual things; I’m more proud of how our team performed and the success that we had.

What was the big takeaway from Sunday night’s championship match against Mexico?

WT: It was obviously disappointing not to win the tournament. Playing Mexico in Mexico is never going to be an easy game, regardless of if it’s a final or not. I thought we performed well given the circumstances and given the pressure was on us. Like I said, we wanted to get the win but sometimes it just doesn’t go your way.
