Eastern Conference Roundup: July 9

Eastern Conference Roundup: July 7

Week 19 of the 2013 MLS season saw most of the teams in the Eastern Conference in midweek action as the Montreal Impact drew both of its matches to stay on top of the conference.

Here is how the rest of the East looks heading into Week 20.

1. Montreal Impact - 31 pts. - Week 19: 3-3 Draw at Toronto FC, 1-1 Draw vs. Chivas USA

With three games in-hand on Kansas City, New York and Philadelphia and still leading the East, the Impact's standing in the Eastern Conference was unaffected with a pair of draws in Week 19. However, the fact that those draws came against bottom-of-the-table Toronto FC and Chivas USA may be concerning to Marco Schällibaum and his staff. The Impact will be tested this week with a trip to the Big Apple to face the Red Bulls.

2. Sporting Kansas City - 30 pts. - Week 19: 1-1 Draw vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 2-1 Win at Chicago Fire

Sporting earned seven points in an eight-day span to move from fourth place to the second position on the Eastern Conference table. With Graham Zusi and Matt Besler back from National Team duty, Kansas City seems to be hitting its stride once again. Sporting hosts Toronto FC on Saturday in Week 20 action.

3. New York Red Bulls - 28 points - Week 19: 2-0 Loss at Colorado Rapids

New York was one of the few teams to play a single match in Week 19, losing 2-0 on the road in Colorado. The Red Bulls return home this weekend to host the Montreal Impact. If it's anything like the two sides' last meeting, fans are in for a treat.

4. Philadelphia Union - 27 pts. - Week 19: 2-2 Draw at Real Salt Lake, 1-0 Loss at Houston Dynamo

The Union earned just one point from a tough, two-match road trip to Salt Lake and Houston in Week 19. Philadelphia will look to rebound with three of its next four matches coming at home, starting with a bout against Chivas USA on Friday.

5. Houston Dynamo - 26 pts. - Week 19: 1-0 Win vs. Philadelphia Union

Ricardo Clark found the net as the Dynamo secured its first victory since May 8 to stay in the top five in the Eastern Conference Standings. Dom Kinnear's men travel to New England to play the Revolution on Saturday.

6. New England Revolution - 24 pts. - Week 19: 2-0 Win vs. San Jose Earthquakes

Saer Sene and Dimitry Imbongo scored as Bobby Shuttleworth recorded his League-leading eighth shutout of the season in the Revolution's 2-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. New England hosts the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium in Week 20.

7. Columbus Crew - 23 pts. - Week 19: 2-1 Loss at LA Galaxy, 1-0 Win vs. Portland Timbers

The Crew was unlucky on the Fourth of July as the LA Galaxy was awarded to controversial penalties in the final minutes to squander the Black & Gold's 1-0 lead. It wasn't pretty, but the Crew rebounded on Sunday with a 1-0 victory to snap its three-match losing streak and end the Portland Timbers' 15-match unbeaten run as Bernardo Anor scored his second goal in as many games. Columbus has a break from MLS play this week, but will host FA Cup champions Wigan Athletic in a friendly (TICKETS) on Saturday.

8. Chicago Fire - 20 pts. - Week 19: 3-2 Win vs. San Jose Earthquakes, 2-1 Loss vs. Sporting Kansas City

The Fire split its pair of home matches in Week 19. Sunday's loss to Sporting Kansas City snapped a six-match unbeaten streak since Mike Magee joined the Men-in-Red. The Fire hosts Club America in a friendly on Wednesday before traveling to Vancouver to face Whitecaps FC this weekend.

9. Toronto FC - 13 pts. - Week 19: 3-3 Draw vs. Montreal Impact

The Reds have earned points in four of their last five matches, and can hang their hats on three goals agains the first-place Impact in Week 19. Toronto FC will be tested this week as it travels to Kansas City.

10. D.C. United - 10 pts. - Week 19: 2-0 Loss at Seattle Sounders FC, 0-0 Draw at Colorado Rapids

After falling in a midweek match at Seattle, Joe Willis made seven saves to shut-out the Colorado Rapids and help United to the road point over the weekend. D.C. has a break from MLS play in Week 20 as it hosts Chivas Guadalajara on Friday.
