Sporting Kansas City extended its lead atop the Eastern Conference as scoreless draws over the weekend were the story for most of the rest of the conference.
Here's how the East looks after 21 weeks of action in 2013.
1. Sporting Kansas City - 36 pts. - Week 21: 2-1 Win at Real Salt Lake
Ike Opara's 97th minute match-winner propelled Sporting to a road victory against Western Conference frontrunner Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Kansas City now controls the Eastern Conference with a four-point cushion. Sporting travels to Montreal to face the slumping Impact on Saturday.
2. Montreal Impact - 32 pts. - Week 21: 0-0 Draw vs. FC Dallas
The Impact's woes continued over the weekend as its winless streak was extended to five matches in a 0-0 draw at home against FC Dallas. Things won't get any easier as first-place Sporting Kansas City visits Stade Saputo on Saturday.
3. New York Red Bulls - 32 pts. - Week 21: 0-0 Draw at Toronto FC
Even with the likes of Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill and Fabián Espíndola on the field, the Red Bulls were out-shot by Toronto FC in a 0-0 draw over the weekend. New York hosts Real Salt Lake in Week 22.
4. Philadelphia Union - 31 pts. - Week 21: 0-0 Draw vs. Portland Timbers
In another scoreless draw over the weekend, the Union earned a point at home against the Portland Timbers. Philadelphia travels to Vancouver to face Whitecaps FC on Saturday.
5. Houston Dynamo - 29 pts. - Week 21: Idle
The Dynamo had a productive off-week as Brad Davis and Omar Cummings returned to training for Dom Kinnear's club. Houston hosts Stoke City FC in a midweek friendly before welcoming the Chicago Fire on the weekend.
6. New England Revolution - 27 pts. - Week 21: 2-1 Loss at Colorado Rapids, 2-0 Win at Columbus Crew
The Revolution made up for a midweek loss in Colorado and an offensively anemic 90 minutes in Columbus with two goals in stoppage time to beat the Crew on Saturday. New England will look to keep rolling as it travels to last-place D.C. United on Saturday.
7. Chicago Fire - 24 pts. - Week 21: 4-1 Win vs. D.C. United
Joel Lindpere was magnificent for the Men in Red against D.C. United, registering a goal and a pair of assists in the Fire's 2-1 win. Chicago looks to continue climbing up the conference standings with a weekend trip to BBVA Compass Stadium to face the Houston Dynamo.
8. Columbus Crew - 23 pts. - Week 21: 2-0 Loss vs. New England Revolution
The Crew dropped a gut-wrenching 2-0 defeat at home, allowing two stoppage-time goals against the New England Revolution to fall to eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Black & Gold travel to Toronto for the second match of the 2013 Trillium Cup presented by Scotts on Saturday (2:00 p.m. ET / FOX Sports Ohio).
9. Toronto FC - 14 pts. - Week 21: 0-0 Draw vs. New York Red Bulls
The Reds earned a point at home, shutting-out the New York Red Bulls in a 0-0 draw. Toronto FC welcomes the Crew to BMO Field in Week 22.
10. D.C. United - 10 pts. - Week 21: 4-1 Loss at Chicago Fire
Now focused on developing the youth on its roster, D.C. United fell 4-1 on the road in Chicago but can take solace in new addition Luis Silva's first goal for the club. D.C. hosts the New England Revolution this weekend.
