Reserve League Match 10: Crew Reserves top Dynamo, 2-0

HOUSTON (Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013) – The Houston Dynamo Reserves fell to the Columbus Crew Reserves, 2-0, in the MLS Reserve League on Sunday morning at Houston Amateur Sports Park. Omar Mohamed and Drew Beckie each tallied goals in the second half as the Crew Reserves earned a road win to avenge a Dynamo Reserves win in Columbus on June 1.   


The Dynamo Reserves are now 4-3-0 (12 points) in the Reserves League East Division. The Crew Reserves improve to 4-5-1 (13 points).


After both teams traded chances for the first hour of the match, Mohamed, a Crew Academy player, opened the scoring when he took a pass from Ethan Finlay and finished his chance for a 1-0 lead.


The Crew Reserves put the game away in the 82nd minute. A corner kick from Ben Speas was met by Drew Beckie, who rose high a drove a strong header into the net for a 2-0 advantage.


The Dynamo Reserves had opportunities to score, including a chance in the ninth minute when Bryan Salazar played a one-two with Omar Cummings near the top of the penalty area and Salazar’s shot forced a save from Crew goalkeeper Daniel Withrow.


16 minutes later, Brian Ching had a chance in the box and his shot was pushed past the post by Withrow.


Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric also made some big saves to keep the game close. First, in the 22nd minute Ryan Finley was alone on goal and Deric made a big save. 18 minutes later Finlay had a chance 1 versus 1 one Deric, but the goalkeeper made another save to force a corner kick.


Early in the second half Houston midfielder Alex Dixon forced a turnover a played the ball to Jason Johnson, who tried a shot from a tight angle that substitute goalkeeper Brad Stuver was able to save.


The Dynamo Reserves next play on Sunday, Aug. 25 with a road game against the Montreal Impact.
