Join Team LampStrong for Light the Night Walk

Matt Lampson

Columbus Crew goalkeeper and Homegrown Player Matt Lampson will serve as the co-chair for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Central Ohio’s Light the Night Walk on Saturday, October 12 at John W. Galbreath Bicentennial Park in downtown Columbus. While the Crew has a bye weekend from Major League Soccer action, Lampson, a stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor and the LLS Central Ohio spokesperson, will partake in the fundraising walk that raised more than $55 million nationally in 2012.

Beginning with a registration at 5:30 p.m., the evening will feature a remembrance ceremony at 6:00 p.m. and a survivor ceremony with the 24-year-old Lampson at 7:00 p.m. The walk will begin shortly thereafter while the Kids Zone will feature Crew Cat and other Black & Gold activities. This is the 15th anniversary of the Central Ohio Light The Night walk and the first year at this location. There are more than 200 LLS Light The Night Walks across North America and its fast-growing popularity recognizes the important statistic that more than 90 percent of children with leukemia now survive compared to the survival rate of about three percent nearly 40 years ago.

There is not a fundraising minimum to join Light The Night, but since 2007 the Central Ohio Light The Night has raised more than $3 million from Columbus, Zanesville and Springfield walks.
