Black & Gold Bullets: October 17

Matt Lampson

Crew goalkeeper Matt Lampson has been impressive in net since stepping in for injured Andy Gruenebaum this season, but what he has done off the field goes well beyond saves or clean sheets. At Saturday's Night the Light Walk, Lampson -- co-chairman of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's event -- inspired others affected by the disease he survived. In this piece from this morning's Columbus Dispatch, Adam Jardy profiles Lampson and what "Team LampStrong" has done in the fight against cancer.

The Black & Gold’s playoff chances got a little bit brighter last night as the LA Galaxy dropped Montreal by a final of 1-0 thanks to a late Kofi Opare goal in the 68th minute of the contest. Next, the Crew will shift its focus to Montreal’s next match against Philadelphia, where a tie would cap both teams at 47 points in the Eastern Conference playoff picture – a total Columbus could reach with a pair of wins against New England the next two weeks. MLSsoccer.com’s Scott French recaps the Galaxy win at the StubHub Center and the first of what should amount to several matches to go in the Crew’s favor.

As the regular season nears its end, it is a good time to look back on the greatest goals of the Crew's 2013 campaign. You can have a look at all the goals and vote for your favorite, but before you do make sure you read on TheCrew.com what some of the players have to say about the best strikes of the season.
