Crew Soccer Foundation to make significant announcement regarding Kirk Urso Memorial Fund at team awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 22

Mark McCullers

Crew Soccer Foundation President and Crew President & General Manager Mark McCullers is set to make a significant announcement about the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund at “An Evening in Black & Gold,” the Crew Team Awards & Wine Tasting, on Tuesday, October 22 at Via Vecchia Winery in Columbus’ Brewery District. The exclusive Crew season ticket holder event is scheduled to run from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET.

The Crew Soccer Foundation’s Kirk Urso Memorial Fund was established in October 2012 in memory of the late Crew midfielder Kirk Urso, who at 22-years-old unexpectedly passed away from a congenital heart defect. The fund serves as a platform to develop and support youth heart health research and programming, a core focus of the foundation. In partnership with The Children’s Heart Foundation, the fund will sponsor an annual grant focused on the prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of cardiac heart defects and sudden cardiac death in youth.

In conjunction with the announcement, during the Team Awards portion of the evening, the Kirk Urso Heart Award will be distributed for the second consecutive year after Urso posthumously received the honor in 2012. This award winner is selected by his own teammates for exemplifying the qualities that make him the “heart” of the locker room, displaying the same characteristics that made Kirk Urso a dedicated teammate.
