Making the Case: Goal of the Year Part Five

Justin Meram

In the final edition of 'Making the Case,'  players campaign Federico Higuaín's chip against Toronto FC and Justin Meram's fancy footwork against the Houston Dynamo.

August 17 vs. Toronto FC - Higuaín's Chip: Part Deux

What they said:

Bernardo Anor: “Nobody was expecting it - that was what was so impressive. Brilliant touch. Brilliant chip. He placed it exactly where it needed to be for it to be a goal.”

Matt Lampson (From a goalkeeper’s perspective): “[Bendik] was in the right place... A lot of it is footwork to get back and a lot of it is the height of the goalkeeper and explosiveness to get off the ground. Those all have to work together to make a save on a ball that [Higuain] put the only place he could.”

Andy Gruenebaum: “Danny [O’Rourke] does a lot to win the ball and we get an outlet there. Pipa does well to get that separation. You can almost see Pipa line it up and it threw [Bendik] off. That’s what is beautiful about this. He dribbled once and you are expecting him to maybe make a through ball or something and he chips it over you.”

September 4 vs. Houston Dynamo - Meram dribbles past Sarkodie and finishes far-post with his left foot

What they said:

Bernardo Anor: “[Justin Meram] is such a skillful player and he can finish with either foot. That was such a great goal – great finish.”

Ryan Finley – “Dom just cut it back and I actually just whiffed on it and luckily it went right to Justin. He made a nice cut and ended up in a one-on-one with a guy and had a nice finish.”
