COLUMBUS – The Columbus Crew announced today that it has traded one of its eight international roster slots in 2014 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for a Third Round selection (45th overall) in this afternoon’s Third and Fourth Rounds of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, held today at 2:00 p.m. ET via conference call. The international roster slot will return to Columbus on January 1, 2015. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, further details of the trade were not disclosed.
The Black & Gold now hold two Third Round selections ahead of this afternoon’s League conference call: the club’s natural Third Round pick (42nd overall) and the 45th overall selection from Vancouver following today’s trade. Last Thursday, the Crew added University of South Florida defender Ben Sweat in the First Round (14th overall) of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.
The Crew begins the 2014 season at D.C. United on Saturday, March 8. Before then, the club continues preparation for preseason training. For more information on catching the Black & Gold in 2014 – visit TheCrew.com/tickets.
