Crew's Kevan George earns international call-up

Kevan George

The Columbus Crew today announced that midfielder/defender Kevan George has been called-up for international duty with Trinidad and Tobago ahead of a semifinal-round action in the 2014 Caribbean Cup. The Soca Warriors are set to host a trio of matches: against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, October 8, St. Lucia on Friday, October 10 and Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday, October 12.

As a result of the call-up from Trinidad and Tobago Head Coach Stephen Heart, George is set to miss the Crew’s upcoming Major League Soccer clash at PPL Park against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, October 11 (7:00 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).

Internationally, George has earned seven caps – including one start and five substitute appearances – for Trinidad and Tobago beginning in 2013. Thus far in 2014, he has made a substitute appearance in the international friendly tune-up against Argentina (June 4) and a substitute appearance against Iran in Sao Paolo (June 8). George previously earned three starts in the 2012 Olympic Qualifying run with Trinidad and Tobago’s Under-23 squad.

The 24-year-old has made four appearances for the Crew in 2014, including two starts and two substitute appearances at central midfield. He returned to the Black & Gold on May 12 after being on-loan with the Dayton Dutch Lions of USL-PRO, where he made seven starts at centerback. He made his Crew season debut as a substitute at central midfield versus FC Dallas (June 29) and made his first MLS start of the season at central midfield against Montreal (July 19).
