POLL: What former Columbus standout would you bring back in Stage 2 of Re-Entry?

Re-Entry Stage

Stage 2 of the 2014 MLS Re-Entry process takes place Thursday afternoon via teleconference. With only three players selected in Stage 1, expect more activity in Stage 2 as clubs have seven days to extend a bona fide offer to selected players. Should the club and player not come to an agreement after seven days, the club retains the right of first refusal for that player in MLS.

Like Stage 1, Crew SC will select 11th in the draft. Around 60 players (should a player decide to opt-out beforehand) are available in the draft, including several former Columbus standouts.

This begs the question (just for fun): Which former Black & Gold player would you most like to welcome back?

Brian Carroll

A two-time MLS Cup winner and four-time MLS Supporters' Shield winner, Carroll was a calming presence in the Black & Gold's Cup-winning 2008 side as the link between the backline and playmaker Guillermo Barros Schelotto. Out of contract after four seasons in Philadelphia, Carroll is in the twilight of his playing days at age 33. Should he be selected by Crew SC, he'd provide veteran leadership and cover when Wil Trapp and Tony Tchani need relief or accumulate yellow cards. Who better for the still-developing Trapp to learn from than Carroll?

Edson Buddle

Drafted by Columbus in 2001, Buddle, also 33, remains fourth on the club's all-time list with 42 goals scored in five seasons for the Black & Gold. Since departing Columbus, Buddle has scored 58 more times in League play to become just the eighth player in MLS history to score 100 goals. Most notably, his 17-goal performance with the LA Galaxy in 2010 earned him a spot on the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Buddle's contract option was declined after two seasons in Colorado.

Adam Moffat

Since being selected by the Portland Timbers in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft, the Scotsman, 28, has bounced from the Rose City to Houston to Seattle to Dallas. Known for his long-range attempts at goal, Moffat can provide depth at central midfield much like he did in Columbus' 2008 and 2009 Supporters' Shield-winning campaigns.

Josh Gardner

A stalwart at leftback in his only season in Black & Gold, Gardner, 32, was selected by the Montreal Impact in the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft. Gardner could provide depth behind Waylon Francis after spending the last two seasons with Sporting Kansas City.
