Post-match quotes: Crew SC at Colorado Rapids

Kei Kamara COLvCLB

Sporting Director & Head Coach Gregg Berhalter

On the game:
I thought it was a gutsy performance by our guys. Obviously going down a goal and after the confidence dipped after last week’s performance, we hung in there. And we certainly stepped up the effort in the second half and I thought we had some good combination, some good goals and it was a good win.

On the physical play by both sides:
Yes, I thought the game was a little too physical for my liking, particularly in the first half. It happens, but I think it could’ve been controlled a little bit better.

On Kei Kamara’s goal scoring form:
The guys know how to look for him and to his credit he knows how to be in the right spot. He’s a fantastic goal scorer, he’s done a great job this year so far and it’s always nice to get him goals away from home.

On how his team bounced back from the 5-2 defeat to Orlando City:
Well, I’m proud of them. Like I said, we lacked 100% confidence in this game, and it’s tough to go on the road at that altitude and win a game, and the guys did it. They didn’t do it through beauty the whole time, they did it through hard work and determination and that goes a long way.

Midfielder Tony Tchani

On the road victory:
I think that’s something that we were looking for; trying to get that second road win.

On his assist for the second goal:
That was something that we work on; making that run off the fullback. When I got that ball I thought Ethan [Finlay] was offside and Hector made that run. I was hoping he would be there so I tried to play to him and just make that run across, but thankfully Kei [Kamara] was there.

On how closing out a game late builds the team confidence:
It feels really good because it was something that we were looking forward to, because we have been working so hard. Based on last game, we didn’t have a good performance, but I thought today, all the guys stepped up.

On the positives to build off of going into a bye week:
We just have to make sure we stay humble, not like 'we need this game, get our heads high.' We just have to make sure we keep working and just keep grinding.

Defender Chris Klute:

On getting the win on his return to Colorado:
[It was great] especially since we were down one goal. Coming back was definitely a team effort, it was really good.

On being able to close out a game on the road:
I think it’s going to bring us closer together in the long run. A couple of weeks ago we kind of let down being up three goals, and we were down a goal this game and we came together instead of just going against each other, and we came back and won the game.

On what positives were built going into a bye week:
Teamwork and hard work. It’s always good getting the win. At least now everyone can keep their heads high, the next four, five days we are off and we move forward from this.

On if the Rapids fans booing affected him:
Yes, it was fun. It was good going against my old team. It was just important that we got the win; I think that was the most important thing today.

Forward Kei Kamara

On how he felt after his goals and the team victory:
Great. It was kind of shaky in the first half, but again, we have to figure out how to play on the road. Hopefully, this is the turning point for us. For me, I want to keep scoring goals. I'm going to keep scoring goals as long as the team keeps producing, but it's really all about that three points on the road. That's huge.

On remaining positive after a few Rapids chances before his first goal:
We just had to keep going and not stop. After our last game, it was one of those where we really had to get something on the board, for me and for all of us today, it was just keep working hard. Wil Trapp was doing really well today telling everybody to just keep working hard.

On what positives he is looking to build off of after this win:
Everybody taking care of themselves going off on this little time off, but at the same time, two games at home is going to be huge. And coming back from a win, hopefully we will be on that front foot and be ready to go for that.

On if playing in Colorado during the All-Star Game played to his advantage for this game:
No, actually I think it was a lot better that we only came in 24 hours before the game than staying here longer. I didn't feel altitude tonight, and hopefully the guys didn't feel it as much, but it was good.

On his late chance on goal:
I don't know. I actually worry about the header that Irwin saved - that was an amazing save. I'm just going to keep going. I'm still looking for my first hat-trick of my career, so I'm just going to keep going.
