CREW SC TO PLAY IN YANKEE STADIUM FOR THE FIRST TIME
Columbus Crew SC plays its 27th 2015 Major League Soccer regular-season match and its 13th road contest by traveling to the Bronx to face-off against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium for the first time in club history. Crew SC is 2-6-4 on the road in 2015, while New York City FC is 4-5-4 at home. This is set to be the second all-time meeting between the Black & Gold and NYCFC.
SECOND MATCH AGAINST NYCFC
With the first-ever match between Crew SC and NYCFC last week, the Black & Gold have now played against each current MLS club at least once, with a record in their first-ever match against each current team of 8-7-4. In Crew SC’s second-ever match against each of the other 18 current clubs, the club’s record is 8-8-2.
LAST REGULAR-SEASON MEETING
On August 19, 2015 at MAPFRE Stadium, Crew SC met New York City FC for the first time ever. The match finished in a 2-2 draw. Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 24th minute, and after two goals by Kwadwo Poku, Cedrick Mabwati scored his first Crew SC goal to level it in the 72nd minute.
BLACK & GOLD COMING OFF THRILLING HOME WIN AGAINST SPORTING KC
In its last match, Columbus Crew SC recorded a home victory against Sporting Kansas City, scoring in the 80th minute to tie the match and in the 88th minute to take the lead and win it. The 80th-minute goal by Tony Tchani was the Black & Gold’s latest game-tying goal of the 2015 MLS regular season, and the 88th minute goal by Jack McInerney was Crew SC’s latest game-winning goal of the year. Dating back to August 8 at Colorado, Crew SC has now won each of its last two matches when the opponent has scored first.
KAMARA EXTENDS GOAL-SCORING LEAD
Forward Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the first contest between Crew SC and New York City FC, on Wednesday, August 19. The Sierra Leone international continues to lead the League in regular-season goals, with 18.
KAMARA LOOKING FOR SOLO SECOND IN CREW SC ALL-TIME SINGLE-SEASON GOAL-SCORING
In scoring his 18th goal of the 2015 Major League Soccer regular season against New York City FC on Wednesday, August 19, forward Kei Kamara surpassed Black & Gold Circle of Honor inductee Brian McBride and tied Stern John for second place on the club’s all-time single-season goal-scoring list. Kamara’s 18 goals in 2015 are now level with John’s effort in 1999, when he also registered 18 goals. McBride struck for 17 tallies during Columbus’ first-ever season in 1996. Kamara now only trails Stern John’s 26 goals in 1998 for the club’s all-time single-season goal-scoring record.
MCINERNEY OPENS CREW SC ACCOUNT
Against Sporting Kansas City last Saturday, forward Jack McInerney notched the game-winning goal in the 88th minute. The tally was his first in a Black & Gold shirt. The forward became the second player in as many matches to score his debut Crew SC goal, joining midfielder Cedrick Mabwati, who accomplished that feat against New York City FC on Wednesday, August 19. McInerney now has 12 game-winning goals in MLS all-time.
NEXT GOAL IS NUMBER 900
The next goal that Columbus Crew SC scores will be its 900th all-time in Major League Soccer regular-season play. The Black & Gold are fifth all-time in MLS team goal-scoring, trailing the LA Galaxy (1000), D.C. United (953), the New York Red Bulls (912) and FC Dallas (911).
KAMARA SETS ALL-TIME CLUB SINGLE-SEASON SHOTS ON GOAL RECORD
By recording two shots on goal against his former team last Saturday, Kei Kamara increased his season total to 48, setting a new all-time Black & Gold single-season club record. Kamara surpassed Stern John’s 47 shots on goal in 1998. The Sierra Leone international is also now three shots shy of tying John’s club record for shots in a single season (116, also set in 1998) as well as one game-winning goal shy of tying John’s club record in that category (six, 1998).
FINLAY GOES FOR 20 AND 20
After his goal against Sporting Kansas City last Saturday, midfielder Ethan Finlay is now just one goal short of becoming just the seventh player in club history to register 20 career goals and 20 career assists (Jeff Cunningham, Brian McBride, Eddie Gaven, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Federico Higuain, Brian Maisonneuve). Additionally, his assists-per-90-minute ratio is now 0.37, third place in club history behind only Robert Warzycha and Schelotto.
