SPORTING DIRECTOR AND HEAD COACH GREGG BERHALTER

On picking up a road win
I thought it was a very good game. I thought it was old fashioned, but I think there were parts of the game where they controlled it and then parts where we controlled. I thought towards the end of the second half we just kept going—controlling the game, creating the chances, and looked like the more likely team to win.

On Justin Meram’s game-winning goal
I think he interprets the role a little bit differently. He was coming inside and he found pockets of space to get open. He did a good job of finding that space and it was crucial to get the ball and turn. A couple of times, he did a really good job. It’s fantastic that guys have the right attitude and if their number isn’t called from the beginning, they come in with the mentality that they want to help the team and get the victory. Justin did a great job on that.

On looking ahead to next week’s match versus FC Dallas
One game at a time. It always is. We were focused on this game. We’re going to regroup, watch the tape, and then start focusing on Dallas. But we know Dallas is a very good team. We know that they’re going to give us some problems and we got to be ready.

MIDFIELDER WIL TRAPP

On getting a road win with a late goal
It’s exciting. It’s a grind-out win. I think we made it a little harder on ourselves than we had to. We had a lot chances first half and in the second half—not just had chances, but very, very good chances that maybe another day we would finish. In the end, we got the three points, which is the most important. It’s exciting for us. Puts some pressure on the teams ahead of us.

On taking the corner kick (Federico Higuain’s usual role) on the opening goal
It’s just what we decided to do today and it worked out perfectly. Ironically, Federico was the one that got on the end of it. He’s not the biggest guy, but he hit the ball well and it was a big goal for us.

On next week’s match versus FC Dallas
Just keep moving forward. Keep trying to impose ourselves on the other team. Dallas is a good team and it’s going to be difficult.

DEFENDER MICHAEL PARKHURST

On the importance of getting three points on the road
It’s a big three points for us. Eastern Conference game and it was a big one. They had talked all week about how it’s a huge game for them and they needed three points, and I thought it was a complete performance. Thought we dominated from start to finish. They had a couple of chances in the first half, but in the second half we stepped up and got the deserved winner.
