Kei Kamara SR 297

The Ohio State Senate and the office of Ohio State Senator Jim Hughes recently presented Columbus Crew SC and forward Kei Kamara with two Resolutions to honor their accomplishments in 2015.

Senate Resolution 297 honored Kamara for receiving the 2015 MLS Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by Advocare. Last year, Kamara became the first player in Black & Gold history to earn the prestigious League honor. A civil war refugee from Sierra Leone, Kamara was recognized for his charitable initiative Schools for Salone and for sharing inspiring story with the Columbus community.

“Kei Kamara is a remarkable individual, and he has combined civic concern and dedication with selfless initiative to become a dynamic leader in the Greater Columbus area,” Resolution 297 reads. “Through his unfaltering devotion to service and achievement, he has distinguished himself as a conscientious and hard-working athlete and humanitarian, and his superlative work is the hallmark of genuine and responsible citizenship.”

In addition to Kamara’s honor, the Ohio State Senate recognized Crew SC for winning the 2015 Eastern Conference Championship. On behalf of the club, Captain Michael Parkhurst and Vice-Captain Wil Trapp, accepted Senate Resolution 298.

“Each member of Columbus Crew SC is an exceptional athlete, combining personal ability and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship,” the Resolution states. “The achievements and leadership of Columbus Crew SC are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on the members but also on their families, their coaches, and their city.”
