Born in Providence and raised in Cranston, Rhode Island, Columbus Crew SC defender and captain Michael Parkhurst grew up a mere 40 minutes from Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he had a four-year spell with the New England Revolution. During that time Parkhurst reached and lost three MLS Cup finals. After falling short again with Crew SC in last year’s season finale, the captain is eager to give it another shot this year.

The New England Soccer Journal, a regional soccer magazine primarily focusing on the New England Revolution, featured Parkhurst in its April 2016 edition, outlining his soccer journey and his ongoing quest to hold up the Cup.

“We’re in a good spot right now. We’ve got all 11 guys returning from MLS Cup. We’ve brought in a few new pieces to add onto that group,” Parkhurst told the Journal.

The 32-year-old Rhode Island native is confident, but not overconfident, about the 2016 season for his team. With the same 10 guys available to play around him, plus the new additions, he believes that the pieces are set to make another run into the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

“We know we have a good shot, but we’re not complacent in the fact that we should get there,” he said.

With his picture on the cover and a three-page spread inside, Parkhurst makes his second appearance on the front of the New England Soccer Journal as a member of Columbus Crew SC. Prior to the 2014 World Cup, the Journal featured Parkhurst as he battled for a spot on the USMNT World Cup roster.
