The top team in Major League Soccer is coming to MAPFRE Stadium when the Colorado Rapids visit Crew SC on Saturday. The Rapids are heading to Columbus leading the Supporters’ Shield standings with 23 points. Here are three things to know about Colorado before the match kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
New leader on the pitch
Colorado and U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Jermaine Jones is a force to be reckoned with. Jones was acquired by the Rapids from the New England Revolution in March and since his debut in week 7 has found the back of the net in three of the past five matches. Jones is one of Colorado’s leading scorers, tied with teammate Luis Solignac who has also scored three goals. There’s no doubt Jones will be one to look out for.
Unbeaten streak
Colorado is currently on a six-match unbeaten streak, outscoring opponents 11-4. The Rapids have won five of their last six games. Their last loss came over a month ago at Real Salt Lake back in week 6. Overall, the Rapids only have two losses on the season, both of which came on the road. Colorado has conceded eight goals this year. Only Toronto FC has conceded fewer (7). At +6, the Rapids have the second best goal differential in the League, trailing only the LA Galaxy (+12).
History vs. Crew SC
The Rapids have had success against the Black & Gold in the past. Colorado is 3-1-1 in its last five meetings against Crew SC. Their last trip to Columbus was back in 2013 and resulted in a 2-0 victory for Colorado. However, in the most recent match-up between the two clubs in August of 2015 the Black & Gold won 2-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Overall, the Rapids are 18-12-9 against Columbus over 20 years of MLS play.
