Eastern Conference Roundup: Week 15

Following the international break, another week of Eastern Conference play is in the books. Let’s take a look at how the East stacks up after week 15.


1. Philadelphia Union – 23 pts. |3-2 loss at New York City FC, next: vs. Chicago Fire (6/22), vs. Vancouver Whitecaps (6/25)
In the first League game following the international break, the Philadelphia Union fell to NYCFC 3-2 on the road at Yankee Stadium for their first loss since April 16. New York jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, and Philly got two back (55th,88th), but the leaders of the East could not complete the comeback. The Union will try to get back on track with five of the next six matches coming at home, starting with Chicago and Vancouver visiting Talen Energy Stadium this week.


2. New York Red Bulls – 22 pts. |2-0 win vs. Seattle Sounders, next: at Real Salt Lake (6/22), at Columbus Crew SC (6/25)


As one of the hottest teams in Major League Soccer, the Red Bulls won their fourth straight match with a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders. A brace from midfielder Mike Grella and three saves from ‘keeper Luis Robles were the difference for New York. The Red Bulls will have two chances this week to continue their good form, as they travel to Rio Tinto Stadium to take on Real Salt Lake on June 22 and to MAPFRE Stadium on June 25 to face Crew SC.


3. New York City FC – 21 pts. | 3-2 win vs. Philadelphia Union, next: at Seattle Sounders

Patrick Vieira’s Designated Players were in full form last Saturday. Goals from Frank Lampard, David Villa, and Andrea Pirlo propelled New York to a 3-2 victory over Philly. New York will try to make it unbeaten in eight of their last 10 this week when they head to Seattle for a clash with the Sounders.


4. Montreal Impact – 20 pts. |0-0 draw at Columbus Crew SC, next: vs. Sporting Kansas City
An Ignacio Piatti-less Montreal Impact played to a 0-0 draw with Columbus Crew SC last week at MAPFRE Stadium. Montreal were dominated by the Black & Gold with possession, but played well defensively to keep the match scoreless for the 90. Montreal returns home this week to Stade Saputo to host Sporting Kansas City.


5. Toronto FC - 19 pts. |1-0 winvs. LA Galaxy, next: at Orlando City SC


Toronto FC got its first win since May 7 on Saturday after defeating the LA Galaxy 1-0 behind a diving header from defender Drew Moor in the 76th minute . The Reds produced 15 shots looking to add to their lead, but five saves from LA’s Brian Rowe gave LA hope to equalize. Toronto plays in the first leg of the Amway Canadian Championship on Tuesday against Vancouver Whitecaps, but returns to League play Saturday when they visit Orlando City SC.


6New England Revolution – 19 pts. |2-1 win at Vancouver Whitecaps, next: at D.C. United


Goals from New England Revolution defender London Woodberry and midfielder Kelyn Rowe pushed the Revs to a 2-1 victory on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps. New England will try to get all three points again this week when they travel to RFK Stadium to take on D.C. United.


7D.C. United– 17 pts. |0-0 draw at Houston Dynamo, next: vs. New England Revolution
D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo played to a 0-0 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium last week. The Black-and-Red performed well defensively in the match, recording 23 clearances, 47 duel wins, and goalkeeper Bill Hamid made four saves in his sixth shutout of the season. D.C. will look to put the ball into the back of net this week when they travel to Gillette Stadium for a meeting with the Revs.


8Orlando City SC – 17 pts. |2-2 draw vs. San Jose Earthquakes, next: vs. Toronto FC
Four second half goals, two of them in stoppage time. Orlando City SC and the San Jose Earthquakes played to a 2-2 draw last week in an extremely emotional match at Camping World Stadium. Both sides stopped play in the 49th minute of the match to remember the 49 victims of the Orlando shooting last week, and the Lions eventually walked away with one point from the match. Orlando City will try to take all three points this week


9. Columbus Crew SC – 15 pts. |0-0 draw vs. Montreal Impact, next: vs. New York Red Bulls


Columbus Crew SC returned to League action following the international break by taking one point from a 0-0 draw with the Montreal Impact. With the result, the Black & Gold have gone unbeaten in seven of their last nine matches, while netting 15 goals over that span. Crew SC will look to get the full three points this week, when it welcomes the New York Red Bulls to MAPFRE Stadium. TICKETS


10. Chicago Fire – 11 pts. |2-1 loss at Colorado Rapids, next: at Philadelphia Union (6/22)
The Chicago Fire got an equalizer in the 81st minute from Joey Calistri, but a goal by the Rapids eight minutes later ended the Fire’s chances of taking any points away from the 2-1 loss in Colorado. The Men in Red will attempt to claim points this week when they travel to Talen Energy Stadium to take on the Union in a midweek matchup.
