Crew SC is headed to Bridgeview, Illinois to take on the Chicago Fire in a Round of 16 contest in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Here is everything you need to know leading up to kickoff on Tuesday night.
CREW SC ADVANCES TO LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP ROUND OF 16 FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT SEASON
This is the fourth straight season that the Black & Gold have advanced to this round of the competition. Crew SC last advanced to the Quarterfinals in 2010, when it finished as runners-up to Seattle in the tournament.
COLUMBUS TO MEET CHICAGO IN LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP FOR SIXTH TIME
The Black & Gold have met the Chicago Fire five previous times in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, including in Round of 16 matchups in 2004, 2013 and 2014. In this contest, Columbus will be looking to notch its first-ever win over the Fire in Open Cup competition. The two clubs also met in the Final (1998) and in preliminary qualification (2008).
KAMARA'S LATE STRIKE LIFTS BLACK & GOLD TO DRAW
In Crew SC's last MLS match, on June 25 against the Red Bulls, Ola Kamara leveled the match for Crew SC with his fifth goal of the 2016 regular season in the 93rd minute of play. The tally was assisted by Waylon Francis and Ethan Finlay. The goal was the latest game-tying or winning goal for Crew SC in the regular season since Justin Meram's game-winning strike at Seattle on March 29, 2014 (90'+4'). It was also Crew SC's latest game-tying goal since Hector Jimenez leveled the contest against D.C. United at MAPFRE Stadium in the 90th minute on April 19, 2014.
CLARK TIES JON BUSCH IN ALL-TIME CREW SC STARTS
Against New York, Steve Clark tied Jon Busch for second place in all-time Crew SC regular-season goalkeeper starts. It was Clark's 83rd regular- season start in Black & Gold.
