Celebrating Heather O'Reilly

American legend Heather O'Reilly announced her retirement from international soccer last week, confirming that Wednesday's Open Training and Thursday's international friendly against Thailand would be her final appearances for the U.S. Women's National Team. Her career and achievements are certainly to be celebrated.

The midfielder will be honored in a pre-match ceremony on Thursday, paying homage to her 230 caps and celebrating her 15 years — and Olympic medals and numerous trophies — as a member of the USWNT.

O’Reilly, 31, will end a spectacular 15-year international career when she plays her final game in a U.S. uniform on Sept. 15 as the USA takes on Thailand in Columbus, Ohio (8 p.m. ET on ESPN2) [TICKETS].
“Heather has been a vitally important part of our program for many years and has continued to set a standard for professionalism and work ethic,” said U.S. head coach Jill Ellis. “She’s been right in the thick of things for most of our big moments over the past 15 years and has always been the ultimate team player and a world-class person. She should be incredibly proud of the indelible impact she’s made on this team and on women’s soccer.”
