Black & Gold by the Numbers: Debutants & Career Highs

Crew SC forced the Eastern Conference leading New York Red Bulls into uncomfortable territory with a furious comeback featuring a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes. New York survived, 3-2, on Sunday despite having a penalty saved and pressure from the Black & Gold. Let’s take a look at the meeting between Eastern Conference foes by the numbers…

Sunday was a day of firsts for Crew SC. Goalkeeper Brad Stuver and midfielder Cristian Martinez made their first career starts in MLS action for Columbus. Stuver was called into action from the 6th minute â€” saving a Sacha Kljestan penalty kick and recording six saves on the day.

Martinez was a spark plug in the final third, completing 5-of-6 passes and successfully sending in 1-of-3 crosses. It was his fifth career appearance.

3 & 6

Forward Adam Jahn started his third game for the Black & Gold, including Crew SC's last two. In those two most recent starts, he's scored three times â€” twice at Chicago on Thursday night and once at the New York Red Bulls on Sunday.

Sunday's 73rd minute goal was Jahn's sixth in 2016 â€” and fifth since being acquired by Crew SC in July. Both are career highs.

Justin Meram helped on a Crew SC goal for a career-high 12th time when he assisted Jahn's goal in the second half. Since being drafted 15th overall in 2011, Meram has recorded 25 assists with last year's five standing as his previous high mark.
