During the October 1Crew SC match against the Chicago Fire, two members of the Crew SC player development system were awarded with full scholarships through the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund.

The scholarships were awarded to Ryanne Michel and Matthias Dewhurst who were chosen by members of the Crew SC Foundation Board of Directors. Both Michel and Dewhurst were selected because they exhibit charismatic leadership, great attitudes, fantastic work ethic and have positive impacts on their community, all of which were traits exemplified by Kirk Urso.

Michel plays in the Elite program of the player development system and her coaches say she always leads by example, works hard and encourages her teammates to be the best that they can be, even comforting them if they are feeling down.  Off the field Michel has received the spirit award at her school which recognizes friendship and loyalty.

Dewhurst participates in the player development pre-academy program which requires him to drive an hour to get to and from practice up to six times a week.  His coaches say he is a team player and is always looking for ways to help his teammates or ways the team can improve.  When he’s not playing soccer he volunteers as a referee at various soccer events in his community.

The Kirk Urso Memorial Fund Scholarship is dedicated to helping families having financial hardships so their child can continue to play soccer, assisting with covering player fees.  For more information on the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund, visit the Kirk Urso Memorial Fund page on the Crew SC website.
