COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew SC today announced its full preseason schedule in advance of the 2017 Major League Soccer season, highlighted by training in Sao Paulo, Brazil and in Central Ohio ahead of participation in the 2017 Carolina Challenge Cup – a preseason tournament in Charleston, South Carolina.
Under Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter, the 2017 MLS Preseason begins on Monday, January 23, 2016 after entrance physicals and testing. From there, the club departs to Sao Paulo, Brazil for training. Crew SC is slated to remain in Brazil through February 9 before returning to Columbus.
The team will be in Central Ohio at SuperKick in Powell from February 13-15 for additional preseason training. Following the time in Ohio, the club travels to Charleston, South Carolina to participate in the 2017 Carolina Challenge Cup. Hosted by the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League, Crew SC is set to be joined by three other MLS sides. The four participating teams will play in a round-robin style tournament over the course of three days. Broadcast information will be available at a later date. Major League Soccer’s offseason schedule continues with the MLS Waiver Draft, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, December 15 at 2 p.m. ET and the MLS Re-Entry Process begins with Stage One on Friday, December 16 at 3 p.m. ET. Stage Two of the Re-Entry Draft takes place on Thursday, December 22 at 3 p.m. ET.
