Columbus Crew SC returns to MAPFRE Stadium — where it is unbeaten since September 2016 — this weekend to host New York City FC for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. The match is presented by the Ohio EPA with an aim to help raise awareness for Earth Day, which was celebrated worldwide on Saturday, April 22.

To officially begin Week 9 of the Major League Soccer regular season at MAPFRE Stadium, Ohio EPA Director Craig Butler will serve as Crew SC's honorary captain against NYCFC. The Ohio EPA’s goal is to protect the environment and public health by ensuring compliance with environmental laws while encouraging businesses and communities to get involved as environmental stewards in their communities.

“Ohio EPA is proud to bring awareness about the importance of recycling on Earth Day Week with Columbus Crew SC,” Butler aid. “We are asking fans to support recycling on Earth Day and every day because it save energy and valuable landfill space, conserves our natural resources and creates job.”

As a part of MLS's Greener Goals Week of Service initiative last week, Columbus Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter joined players Adam Jahn and Niko Hansen and Crew SC front office staff to construct a community garden in Columbus. That Give Forward project was a combined effort with Crew SC partners Acura and MAPFRE Insurance.

In partnership with the Ohio EPA, Crew SC has been named the recipient of Ohio EPA’s Special Venue Recycling Grant which will allow MAPFRE Stadium become more efficient in recycling efforts in the future.
