Crew SC kicked off its campaign to the 2008 MLS Cup final in a big way, defeating Toronto FC 2-0. After an action-packed first 25 minutes, Adam Moffat broke the draw with a quick ground ball from outside of the box towards the lower left side of the net. Moffat helped to play hero later on when Will Hesmer stopped a Gabe Gala penalty kick. The shot trickled away and Moffat cleared the ball away before Gala could get a foot on it.
With the lead preserved, Alejandro Moreno doubled it in the 76th minute when he curled a groundball into the net after a one-on-one opportunity. The 2-0 win extended Crew SC’s unbeaten streak against the Reds to four, and the streak would live on until the 13th meeting between the two sides.
