Columbus Crew SC, in partnership with Ohio Blind Soccer and Columbus Recreation & Parks hosted a Blind Soccer Awareness, event on Wednesday, March 27th at the Franklin Park Adventure Center. The event included a presentation introducing the sport of Blind Soccer, a personal testimony from visually impaired athlete Dan Kelley and a demonstration which invited participants to learn the basic skills of the sport through warm ups and drills lead by Coach Katie Atkinson from Columbus Recreation & Parks. Columbus Crew SC defender, Lalas Abubakar participated in Wednesday’s Blind Soccer demonstration and spent the evening interacting with visually impaired athletes along with their sighted friends and family who were all invited to participate in the event. Ohio Blind Soccer is currently one of seven teams in the U.S. and their goal is to grow the sport and gain enough athletes in order to participate in the Paralympics by 2028. This event is a part of Crew SC’s Give Forward initiative presented by MAPFRE Insurance.
