Galaxy officially activate Beckham from DL

David Beckham returned to training last month for the first time since he tore his Achilles in March.

The Los Angeles Galaxy officially activated David Beckham from the Disabled List on Thursday, making this weekend’s battle of the conference leaders that much more interesting.

The first-place Galaxy host Eastern Conference-topping Columbus at the Home Depot Center on Saturday, and Beckham is now eligible to make his first appearance for LA since MLS Cup 2009 last November.

Beckham tore his left Achilles tendon in March while playing on loan for AC Milan. The injury prevented him from appearing in this past summer’s World Cup – which would have been his fourth – and has kept him sidelined since.

MLS’ first Designated Player underwent surgery in Finland on March 16 before returning to Los Angeles to begin rehab. He joined the English National Team in South Africa for moral support and then returned to Galaxy training last month.

Beckham and Galaxy trainers have targeted Saturday as a possible return date for the English midfielder.

“I’ll be on the bench, and hopefully I’ll get on the field for 15 to 20 minutes,” he told lagalaxy.com last week. “That’s what I’m looking at."
