Playoff matchups set

NEW YORK — The LA Galaxy ended the drama much the same way they started it back in March: with a win.

The Galaxy’s 2-1 victory over FC Dallas on Sunday gave Bruce Arena’s side the Supporters’ Shield for the best overall record in the league. The three points also gave them the Western Conference title and home-field advantage through the playoffs.

The result settled the final permutations of the MLS Cup Playoffs seeding, giving the Galaxy the #1 seed in the West and relegating Real Salt Lake to the #2 seed.

On Saturday, the remainder of the playoff scenarios were set in stone, with Dallas clinching the #3 seed in the West thanks to the Seattle Sounders loss to Houston. The Sounders end up with the 4th seed in the West, and will now face the Galaxy in the Western Conference semifinals.

The Colorado Rapids and the San Jose Earthquakes finish in 5th and 6th place in the West, respectively, and will shift to the Eastern Conference bracket. The Rapids will face Columbus, while the the Quakes take on top-seeded New York.
