Following a comprehensive evaluation of our roster and salary cap, we have arrived at the difficult decision that options for the 2011 season will not be exercised on the contracts of Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Jason Garey, Leandre Griffit, Frankie Hejduk, Duncan Oughton and Gino Padula. It goes without saying that on that list are some of the most beloved and accomplished names in Crew history. They have won trophies, earned accolades and provided memories that punctuate the most successful era in club history. Their contributions in Black & Gold will be celebrated and cherished, and we sincerely thank them for what they brought to this team. We wish them nothing but the best as they embark on the next chapters of their lives.
Through this process, we have been able to maintain a core group of talented players. With the continuing emergence of future stars within that core, combined with the addition of quality players that fill our needs, compliment the roster and improve the team, our expectations are that we will continue to compete on a level that our fans throughout the region have enjoyed watching over the last few seasons.
