Crew and Outlook Media create Pride Cup

The Columbus Crew and Outlook Media have announced plans to host the inaugural Pride Cup, presented by Innova Financial. A one-day adult GLBT and allied soccer tournament scheduled for Saturday, July 23, at Crew stadium, the Pride Cup will feature up to eight (8) 10-person teams playing in a 6v6 format.

“This is an exciting new partnership and event,” said Crew President & General Manager Mark McCullers. “We have an active and engaged GLBT community, making this tournament a perfect fit. We look forward to welcoming the event to Crew Stadium on July 23 and for many years to come.”

Each team will be assigned to either the Black or Gold division and play a minimum of three games each. The top two teams from each division will advance to the semifinals, with the winners moving on to the championship game. Games will consist of two 10-minute halves.

“We are very excited to partner with the Columbus Crew to create the Pride Cup,” said Michael Daniels, co-owner of Outlook Media. “Columbus is a strong GLBT sports town, and this tournament with the Crew just highlights our city’s diversity, and the Crew’s commitment to all Columbus residents.”

Play will take place from 12:30-4 p.m. on July 23, with an awards ceremony to follow. Ticket holders and participants will then stay for the Crew game that kicks off at 8 p.m. that evening, when the Black & Gold play host to the expansion Portland Timbers for the first time ever.
