The Columbus Crew has announced that international Irish rock band Flogging Molly will play a full concert at Crew Stadium following the Crew’s match vs. the Chicago Fire on Saturday, May 26, highlighting the club’s 2012 promotional schedule. “Put Out the Fire with Flogging Molly, presented by CD101” will be the band’s final show in Ohio this year.
Flogging Molly drummer George Schwindt and manager Gary Schwindt are Columbus natives, and have been Crew season-ticket holders for the last five years.
"I've been a season ticket holder since moving back to Columbus and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to perform for Crew fans and Flogging Molly fans alike,” said Flogging Molly drummer George Schwindt, an Ohio State graduate. “It is going to be a great night of football and music!"
All tickets to the Crew vs. Fire game will grant access to the concert. A very limited number of VIP Field Access tickets that will allow field access for the concert are available – starting at $34 for Upper Level tickets and $39 for Lower Level tickets – at TheCrew.com, Ticketmaster.com, the Crew Stadium Ticket Office, Ticketmaster Outlets or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Founded in Los Angeles in 1997, Flogging Molly has always defied categorization. The infectious originality of their songs is a badge of honor and key to the band’s creativity, their urgency. They infuse punk rock with Celtic instruments—violin, mandolin and the accordion—and they merge blues progressions with grinding guitars and traditional Irish music.
“We're not a traditional band," explains Dublin-born vocalist/guitarist Dave King. "We are influenced by traditional music and inspired by it, but without question we put our own twist on it." Flogging Molly is currently touring in support of their fifth album “Speed of Darkness,” with the current single “Saints & Sinners” coming from that album.
Other highlights of the Crew’s promotional schedule (which follows in its entirety) are First Kick 2012 on March 24, three Dollar Nights, “Red, White & Crew” on June 30 and “Blackout the Galaxy” festivities on Aug. 15.
The promotional season will begin with First Kick 2012 on Saturday, March 24, when the expansion Montreal Impact visits Crew Stadium for the first time. Fans in attendance that afternoon will receive a Crew scarf, courtesy of Lifeline of Ohio Donate Life, while supplies last. Three dates have been designated as Dollar Nights – April 21, July 14 and Aug. 25 – which integrate the ever-popular Bob Evans Buck-a-Brat Nights and Budweiser $1 Draft Nights.
The Crew will get a jump on Independence Day festivities in central Ohio with “Red, White and Crew” on June 30, at 8 p.m., followed by a new choreographed postgame fireworks show, and the 2012 home regular-season finale on Oct. 28 will be “Fan Appreciation Night”.
Fans will also continue to have the opportunity to let their kids try a shot on goal during one of six on-field Postgame Kick nights, and get a chance for an autograph from Crew players at one of four scheduled Autograph Alley games.
