THE BASICS
Name: Erik Hurtado
Position: FWD/MID
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 170 lbs.
College: Santa Clara
Class: Senior
Citizenship: United States
BACKGROUND
Hurtado spent time in the Portland Timbers' youth system, but the Santa Clara forward will be fair game in the SuperDraft as the club wasn't able to claim him as a Homegrown player. Hurtado scored 15 goals and assited on seven more in 19 games during 2012 for the Broncos, finishing his college career with a total of 37 goals and 20 assists in four seasons. The former United States U-18 forward earned Third Team NSCAA All-American and West Coast Conference Player of the Year honors in 2012.
FITTING WITH THE CREW
Hurtado is a pacey forward who can play either centrally as a second striker or on the wing. His nose for goal and 170-pound frame could be an asset for the Crew at the next level.
TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM'S TRAVIS CLARK'S SAYS
"Strong and versatile, Hurtado made things happen for Santa Clara during his collegiate career. He's a player who can play up top as a withdrawn forward or as a winger, although to be an MLS mainstay as the latter, must be able to do the defensive work involved."
