U.S. Soccer celebrates its 100th anniversary Friday. While the Crew has only been involved in the past 18 years, the organization has left its mark on soccer in the United States.
PLAYERS
Through the Crew's 18 years, 37 players that have donned the Black & Gold either as a player or coach have also earned a cap with the U.S. Men's National Team at some point during their playing career. Forward Brian McBride (95 caps), Frankie Hejduk (85 caps) and Brad Friedel (82 caps) have represented the U.S. more than any other Crew players past and present. McBride scored 30 times in his International career, the most of any Crew player to wear the Red, White and Blue.
Chad Marshall and Eddie Gaven are the only current players to earn a call-up to the USMNT.
CREW STADIUM
Famous for hosting three U.S. versus Mexico FIFA World Cup Qualifiers - all 2-0 victories for the United States - Crew Stadium has become the go-to venue for hosting the rivalry when it matters most. Crew Stadium will once again welcome the U.S. and Mexico for a 2014 World Cup Qualifying Hexagonal round match on September 10, 2013.
In total, the Yanks are 6-0-3 in Columbus. The United States has only surrendered one goal in nine matches at Crew Stadium.
The U.S. Women's National Team has also seen success in Columbus. The U.S. Women are currently 4-1-0 in Crew Stadium. Crew Stadium was also selected as one of the host venues of the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup. 22,828 fans were in attendance to see the USWNT to a 3-0 victory over North Korea.
