Crew Youth

COLUMBUS – The Crew Juniors U-19/20 team traveled to Detroit on Saturday, June 8 for a match with FC Force, winning 2-1. After a scoreless first half, Indiana University’s Femi Hollinger-Janzen netted the first goal of the game in the 68th-minute. Despite surrendering an equalizer from a Force free kick, Akron’s Matt Foldesy scored the winner with six minutes remaining.

In their first home match on Sunday June 9, the U-19/20s put on a commanding 5-0 performance against Vardar East. Notre Dame midfielder Connor Klekota, West Virginia’s Zak Leedom and Tommy Thompson of Indiana University all scored in the match, while Hollinger-Janzen netted two for the Black & Gold. The U-19/20s next match is in Detroit against Detroit City FC on June 18. This contest is in preparation for regionals on June 21 in Iowa.

In other Crew Youth news, Challenger Crew Juniors, the Cleveland-based affiliate of Crew Juniors, had a team in the Ohio North State Cup Finals in every age group U-10 through U-16 on the boys’ side of their program. The U-10, U-11 and U-16 teams were state champions and U-12 through U-15 teams were finalists.  Seven state finalists in consecutive age groups - with three champions - is an unprecedented accomplishment in Ohio North.

Regular tryouts came to a close last week for the U-13 through U-19 age groups, with nearly 2,200 players attending over the full eight days. Supplemental tryouts will continue until June 19. Supplemental tryouts are for players who were not able to make the original tryout date. For more information, please go to www.TheCrewYouth.com
