The Crew re-assembled yesterday for its first full training session since the bye weekend following a light workout on Monday. There was energy and optimism within the group and while the Black & Gold remained alive in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, they are determined to keep it that way with a win at New England on Saturday, the Columbus Dispatch's Adam Jardy reports. Jardy also provided an injury update on Crew Captain and Designated Player Federico Higuain.
The U.S. Men's National Team was part of a dramatic sequence of events in last night's 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. With Graham Zusi's shocking stoppage-time equalizer in Panama and Aron Johannson's winner just seconds later, the Americans kept hope alive for Mexico to reach the World Cup. Despite El Tri's 2-1 loss to Costa Rica, a 3-2 win for the U.S. eliminated Panama from contention for Brazil 2014 and put Mexico through to a two-leg playoff against New Zealand. Andrew Wiebe from MLSsoccer.com recaps the wild evening.
Last week's bye gave the Crew a needed week off, and it also provided local high school teams with the chance to compete for a championship on the Black & Gold's home field. Whetstone High School captured the Girls City League Championship for the second year in a row with a 7-0 win over Centennial. Brad Emerine from from ThisWeek Community News was at Crew Stadium to take in the action.
